Assistance Available For Oklahoma Tornado Victims

The tornado that hit Moore, a suburb of Oklahoma City, has left a trail of destruction and killed 51 people . Survivors compare it to a war zone. Severe winds at 320 km/hr blew which flattened houses, blew rooftops and tore through several schools. The U.S. President has declared state emergency.

FEMA has come up with several aid programs for the tornado hit region. Victims living and working in Oklahoma counties can find disaster loans. The agency has installed boots on ground to help the victims just after the first wave of deadly tornadoes hit the region. It brought in rescue teams from Texas, Nebraska and Tennessee to help people who suffered damages.

The counties of Cleveland, Lincoln, McClain, Oklahoma, and Pottawatomie have been declared disaster hit areas by the President and for these regions federal fund is made available so that the victims can recover from damages. Governor Mary Fallin, appreciated President Obama for his quick response after the sequester and for approving federal disaster assistance to Oklahoma.

Business owners can find low cost loans up-to $2 million and it is the same for agricultural cooperatives and private, non-profit organizations suffering cash flow problems and who are in need of working capital. Loans in the amount of $200,000 will be available for primary residences and $40,000 for personal property damages. There will be 26 weeks unemployment payments for workers paralyzed by the storm. Rental assistance will also be there and it will last three months for homeowners and one month for renters. Loans of $500,000 will also be available for farmers, ranchers and aquaculture operations.
