Small business owners can’t be shy. Every day you have to put yourself out there, delivering your products, services, and organization. Marketing is truly an around-the-clock part of your job.
Even if you tend to be less extroverted, here is one solid piece of advice to help you come out of your shell and seek like-minded business owners like you: Network!
Who? Networking groups. These colleagues gather to share ideas and work together to promote local business interaction. Or they can be associates who grab a cup of coffee down at the local diner every other Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. (Don’t have a networking group in your town? Then start one!)
What? Weekly or monthly meetings, seminars, events, receptions. Yes, you’ll shake a lot of hands. But you’ll meet a lot of people, many of whom can probably help you succeed. The agenda usually includes what’s new in town, how local business is faring, and possibly even include a guest speaker.
Where? Usually at a local hall, restaurant or civic group’s meeting facility. Early mornings usually work best before the day begins. And be sure to bring a stack of business cards.
How? Check into your local business group or chamber of commerce. They will be happy to help and point you in the right direction.
