Who doesn’t love the kick-off of the holiday shopping season? And where Black Friday annually gets the pre-dawn (or earlier!) attention of shoppers coast to coast, Small Business Saturday is quickly gaining traction nationwide.
This national phenomenon, created by American Express in 2010, has taken the world by storm. If you’re not ready for Small Business Saturday – you should be.
While we’re still some weeks away from The Big Day, here’s what you can do to generate the most buzz for your small business beforehand.
1. Market to maximize holiday opportunities. Ahead of the 2014 holiday shopping season, economists are predicting sales will be up from last year. Get a head start by promoting Small Business Saturday in your small business with local ads, flyers, window displays, etc.
2. Make the day memorable. Engage your customers with special offers, two-for-ones, discounts, special menus, enhanced services. You get the idea. And advertise the event in your local media, your Web site, and through email or mailing lists.
3. Start special. Stay special. No one said this event has to be just one day. Yes, it’s called Small Business Saturday, but why not continue the good cheer and offer something special for Sunday. Not open that day? Depending on your business (and local protocol), expand this “Customer Holiday Weekend” into Sunday or even the following weekend. Keep the offers coming!
