Can you believe we are rapidly approaching another year of small business ownership?
As a wise entrepreneur, you are already mentally (and probably physically) preparing for the new year. But have you considered giving next year a theme? If not, might I suggest that you make 2015 “The Year of the Customer?”
All the basics for running your small business (operating procedures, staffing issues, stock, rent/mortgage) lead back to your customers. Because without your patrons, there’s no you!
So, here are three ideas to ponder as we forge into the middle of this decade:
1. Customer Appreciation Day – Set aside one day a month and provide a very special, meaningful offer. Don’t forget to blitz the local advertising channels – print, radio, social media, and emails. Naturally, you’ll want to select a traditionally slower day of the month to generate traffic.
2. Loyalty Rewards – Who doesn’t appreciate the gesture of getting something for free or heavily discounted? Big box stores do it all the time. Now it’s your turn: “Every sixth cup of coffee is on the house,” or “Get a free pen with the purchase of a notebook.” You get the idea.
3. In-store drawings – You usually see them in chain restaurants – the big, goldfish bowl filled with business cards and signage advertising a monthly drawing for a free lunch, dinner, or coupon. Here’s your chance to attract business, add to your mailing (or email) list, and generate good will among your regulars.
Prioritizing customer needs as one of your New Year’s Resolutions before 2015 begins will set the stage for more future business.
