You know it’s been one of those winters when the groundhog retreats back into his burrow.
Six more weeks of winter may seem light years away, especially when you’re constantly peering at The Weather Channel for an update, wondering how long it will take to shovel out your company’s parking lot.
But there’s hope on the horizon. Just look out your window at 5:00 p.m. – it’s still light out!
So, what can you do as a small business owner to make the most of the rest of winter? Now that the holiday season is over, take stock of your inventory. You may realize that many items need to be re-ordered now that holiday-specific merchandise has moved from seasonal to clearance. It’s last call for items that you no longer wish – or have the space – to store for another year.
Now is also the perfect time to remind your customers your business is ready to serve and service their needs. Sure, everyone feels blah in the throes of winter; turn that mood around. Be sure to have a bright color scheme in your store. Plan special events to lure customers on a chilly day or ho-hum afternoon or evening. Play cheerful music.
And don’t forget sales and more sales. Who doesn’t love a bargain? Offer end-of-winter specials, and extend good cheer through the winter. Soon, the first robins of spring will be at your door.
