Small business entrepreneurs take note! If you’re a fan of LinkedIn like I am, you’ve noticed some changes lately on its Web site.
There’s a new look, feel, and shift toward more business-focused advice. And while many topics are corporate-related, with some big-name authors like Jack Welch, there is a plethora of relevant information for small businesses to gleam. (Of course, we always want to be the first place you turn for business “how-to’s,” but we know small business owners visit other sites as well).
For those not familiar with this social media site, LinkedIn is primarily for professional connections and, as a result, you have the ability to reach out to vendors, suppliers, and industry colleagues as well as check out your competition. There are also opportunities to join conversations on relevant topics as well as hone in on what’s pertinent to your business.
But be mindful of these pitfalls: do not post personal details, such as jokes of the day, family reunion information, or vacation pictures (unless, of course, you’re a travel agent). And remember that with all of today’s technology, what you post will exist forever so be sure to make thoughtful contributions as you position yourself as a leader in your field.
Being social and staying connected is one way to keep your small business at the forefront of your field and help bring in more customers.
