While spring is the season of rebirth, fall is truly a time of renewal. Here’s a great opportunity to become energized by the change of seasons and cooler, crisper weather (Southern California and Florida excepted, of course!). This time of year also is the perfect period to finalize plans and preparations for the busy months ahead.
So, before you get swept up in the holiday frenzy, seize the season by finding different ways to promote positive energy at your small business, specifically targeting your customers, your employees, and yourself.
- For your customers: Make this time all about them (of course you do that throughout the year, but now is an opportunity to really show you care). Broader smiles and friendlier greetings are a good start, and seasonal specials will especially perk up the mood. Promote a healthier workplace, too, as you execute ways to go green (or greener). If you offer items whose containers can be recycled, provide that option. If nothing else, show you care about the environment by promoting green behavior.
For your employees: Promote healthier eating and exercise. I’m not suggesting Big Brother, but this is an excellent time to set group fitness goals, including lunchtime walks and Fitbit challenges. You also can provide alternative snacks in the vending machine, if you have one. I’ve worked at companies where the CEO hosts lunchtime one-mile walks around the complex. So, lace up your sneakers and lead the way.
- For yourself: Set some time aside each day, even if it’s 10 minutes, to accomplish something just for you. By looking forward to that time, you will generate personal positive energy. And if you feel upbeat, the mood will be felt throughout your establishment.
So fall into autumn and energize your small business. Customers will appreciate your approach and your employees with appreciate you.
