As a small business owner, we know you take your business seriously. But, all work and no play…as the saying goes. So, why not liven up your establishment and tie in some of life’s most important moments while simultaneously growing your business.
Of course, not every small business can link to watershed moments like weddings, graduations, retirements, etc.; but with a little creativity – and planning – many small business owners can join in on the action.
- Wedding Bells. I bought my wedding tux at a local vintage shop. Retro clothing stores are one example of taking a specific industry and tying it into a wedding-related sale. Help a bride-to-be save some cash and promote yourself as an alternative for special event items, if applicable. Like to hold events? Promote your business as the place for special milestones: bridal showers, baby showers, even birthdays.
- Birthday Bashes. Speaking of milestones, I’m seeing more businesses offer their location as a unique party place. I never thought the local ceramics shop would convert itself into a ladies night out, or a kids indoor sports venue turning its evening hours into a soccer/dodge ball bash for a buddy’s special night. And children’s parties – from beauty salons and barbers to craft stores and book shops – everyone is getting in on the action. If you have a dedicated space for an event – consider the possibilities.
- Graduation Day. Whether it’s college, high school, or even kindergarten, you can help members of your community mark their special day with sales on related merchandise or gift ideas (including gift certificates). Restaurants can turn their private rooms into family gatherings.
- Think Outside the Box. Read your local paper, talk to your fellow business owners, and let your imagination be your guide in coming up with new ways to set an atmosphere of conviviality for your next special event.
While life can’t always be a party, it does provide plenty of special moments where your small business can contribute to making memories – and help increase your bottom line.
