Let’s take just a moment for a deep, cleansing breath and relax. (I know that might not be realistic right now – or even possible at this moment, but what if you could…)
Here we are in the final weeks of the year. And if you’re like many small business retailers nationwide, this is the homestretch for the biggest shopping time all year. Hold on tight, it’s about to get frantic.
The hours have been long. (Hopefully for you, the lines have been long, as well!) Tensions are high; and nerves are probably frayed. How can you take a moment to de-stress? Here are some suggestions:
- Get a good night’s sleep. Even with your extended store hours, do what you can to ensure you get your rest. The importance of sleep cannot be underestimated, especially when there’s so much going on: store events, family obligations, etc.
- Start your day with a plan of attack. Of course, that plan may go downhill in a hurry this time of year, but at least you’re walking in the door with a punch list of the top three or four things you want to accomplish that day.
- Anticipate roadblocks. A vendor shipment will likely be delayed; employees may call in sick; the weather can become unpredictable. Welcome to December, the month where many things are out of your direct control. Accept this calmly. (Think about something summer-related for a quick smile.)
- Thank you team. We are all running hither and yon right now, but a sincere “Thank you for all you are doing” to members of your team will not go unnoticed.
