Increasing profits is the bottom line when it comes to owning a business. Even if you love helping others, you cannot continue to do so through your business if you do not make enough profit to stay in business. Therefore, the main driving force behind whatever you do has to be increasing sales. How does this happen?
Focus on Outcomes
Often, the very act of helping people increases daily sales. If you focus most on helping your customer reach their desired outcome through your product or service, you are going to be much more likely to close the sale. A potential customer comes in with a goal in mind, and it is your job to find out what that goal is, then to help them meet that goal with your product or service. If you are good at this, word will spread and more will come. Not only that, but those you help will likely be back as repeat business.
Add value to whatever it is you are selling. This can happen in several forms. Maybe you offer free repair or replacement, easy returns, a money-back guarantee, or simply advice and follow up if needed. Perhaps your service or product comes with a free gift occasionally. Maybe your excellent customer service is what adds value. If you are able to increase the value that you offer, you are going to have a much better chance at closing the sale.
There is a right way and a wrong way to do this, but it is worth a mention as it can increase sales closed on a daily basis. Maybe offer a discount if they purchase today, or a limited time free gift or gift card. Perhaps if they purchase and refer a friend who also purchases they get a discount on their next purchase, if that purchase is made within a certain time frame. There is a fine line between creating urgency and being pushy, but if you can find a way to balance it, it can be a successful tactic.
