There’s a proliferation of webinars; have you noticed? I receive an invitation to attend a webinar at least once a day – sometimes even more frequently. And that’s in addition to the regularly scheduled web-based meetings I attend for work.
The upside: Webinars are like gathering all your important customers and prospects in one room at the same time. It’s a reliable way to reach and interact with people. And there are a whole host of webinar providers on the Internet to assist with setting up your web event.
But are webinars right for you and your small business? That depends on what you are selling and who you are trying to reach.
If you’re a florist, selling fresh flowers on a small scale, probably not. But if you’re a florist expanding your reach to include local hotels, wedding halls, funeral parlors, and meeting sites, then perhaps a webinar is a viable option.
If you’re a hardware store, selling to customers locally, no. But if you’re seeking plumbing contracts with national businesses that have local establishments, then you may want to consider setting up a webinar.
What do you need to conduct a successful webinar? First, gather your mailing list. Next, set a date and time (mid-week, late morning, or post-lunch is best), and decide what message you want to share in a 30- to 45-minute time period.
Here are some handy webinar tips:
- Value everyone’s time. Start promptly and end promptly. Allot time for Q&As and note that in your opening slide agenda, parceling out how time will be spent.
- Provide engaging slides and graphics with easy-to-read copy. You want material to be eye-catching and succinct.
- Utilize pop-up polls with real-time results. I like these a lot: They force the audience to stop, think, and respond. Your vendor can advise on how these work.
- Offer follow-up opportunities. Depending on the program, you can archive the event for your audience to play back. You also can follow-up with an email about the webinar in case others were unable to attend, providing a link to the session and getting your name out to your customers once again.
If you have the right product to sell or service to promote, add webinars into your marketing plan and connect with customers and prospects in no time.
