It’s wedding season. The local hotels are booked solid. The wedding venues (that double as restaurants) are closed for private parties, and many other eateries suddenly have longer waits due to larger groups of diners.
Even though weddings take place throughout the year, more brides gravitate toward warmer months for their ceremonies, with better opportunities for taking outdoor photos, wearing brighter colors, and carrying bouquets filled with seasonal flowers.
If your small business caters specifically to wedding parties, then you are very busy this time of year. However, if you don’t think of yourself as being in the wedding business – think again.
In addition to florists, bakeries, caterers, and tuxedo shops, there are a whole host of small businesses that make a wedding a success. For instance, if you offer giftware, such as decorations, cards, and especially unique merchandise, you may want to keep your shop open a little later for guests in need of a last-minute present.
For those DIY weddings, there’s always someone shopping for necessities that were forgotten, including items for the centerpieces; basic stationary supplies like tape, glitter, and markers; beauty products to stock the restrooms for guests; hair salons and barbers for that wedding day trim, and linens, when there is a table miscalculation.
And if your shop is located in the heart of town, you will no doubt find yourself with new customers who have time on their hands or a need a place to get away from the flurry of activities that swirl around a wedding. Cafes are always a welcome reprieve for wedding guests. So are book shops, boutiques, and gift shops. Some guests are so enchanted with their stay, that they may even want a memento of their visit.
So before you get ready for a sleepy summer, consider the possibility of new guests (and hopefully returning customers) when they arrive for the Big Day.
