We’ve spent a lot of time this year discussing the merits of promoting your small business close to home in myriad ways: local events, local media, local street fairs. You can see where this is heading.
Without a doubt, most of a small business’s “business” likely comes from the local community. And that’s great! You’ve worked hard to ingrain your name in the community.
But what about expanding your horizons?
This idea struck me when I came across a newspaper ad recently promoting street fairs in a major northeast city. The events were plentiful, but there was a lot of mileage between events, which were scattered throughout the region. And that means packing up your wares and services and taking them on the road.
If this isn’t something you’ve looked into yet, regional appearances are another way to expand your brand and get your product or service noticed elsewhere.
Of course, you will need to be prepared for the possible influx of new customers. Do you have enough inventory? Do you have enough staff? Do you have enough drive to ensure that you and your team are ready for whatever may come your way?
I found this line in the ad inspiring and hopefully, you do, too: “Attention store owners – Tired of waiting for customers to come through the door?”
It’s a big world out there with plenty of opportunity for you to expand your business. But just because it’s big, doesn’t mean small businesses can’t be a part of it. Get planning and get going!
